2004 went out with a bang for the U.S.A.’s two strong amateur contest series. “Towards the end of the 2004 season I watched how our business was developing more in some areas and changing in others”, says T. Eric Monroe, founder of the United Skateboard Association. “We were getting a lot of marketing and production business out of New York City, so when the opportunity presented itself we knew we had to make the move to the City.

GROM CHAMPIONSHIPS III
On Nov. 6th the Boarderline Skate Park www.blskate.com hosted the 3rd annual Grom Series Championships presented by Zoo York www.zooyork.com and The United Skateboard Association www.unitedskate.com The top 7 form each of this years stops in both Beginner and Intermediate Divisions where invited to participate in this event, giving a glimpse of what the future holds for this new generation in skateboarding. The weekend proved to be the return of the "Skate and Create" mentality, a breathe of fresh air to say the least, a sign that the kids have been listening and that tides are changing for the better. We always emphasize to the kids that skating should be creative, fun and a way to meet new people, what a concept! What's great about the GROM is that there is no ego, no style or trick taboo they just want to push there skateboarding, whether it was street style, transition or freestyle (can't stop the revolution) it was all good and well represented.

The finals was more like a family reunion than a competition, everyone has either met or stayed in contact with one another throughout the year(s) at various contest series and events, and surprised us with year end scrapbooks, they are our on the road family, much love! This set the stage for what became an eye opening experience as the GROMS went all out holding nothing back. Kids that we have seen grow up in this series took it to the next level some of which we will see in the Beast of the East next year, older cats be on your toes!
